Cor-- Cracks I told you it had cracks
See how far I walked on the Ice road, even with cracks.
I liked this picture of the Hamlet. This is the Golf Course, It's on a sand bar. Can't wait to see what is under all this snow...

Ice road
This is about a quarter of the town, It is way bigger than I thought. In this shot you can see the ice road, the police station, and the Coppermine hotel. I crawled up this hill in front of my house to see the view.

Everyone gone camping
Well I can't believe that they go camping with all this snow on the ground. But spring is in the air around here, everyone is buzzing around, the snow mobiles are constantly going by.
People are off to their cabins that they have all along the shore and along Victoria Island. Not sure how they declare there spot to put a cabin, but when they have the cabin it's theirs and nobody else uses it. They said that town will be dead this weekend as everyone is out on the land. They are spending time with family hunting, fishing and playing outside.
They have said my personal effects will be here on Monday. I will believe it when I see it.
I just went for a walk to what I thought was the ocean shore but It is the mouth of the river I have found out. I walked out a bit, but too strange for me to walk on water. It would be too cold if I fell in. I know they drive cars on it but what if I stepped on a crack or something. Maybe the truck made a crack and then well you know I have a bit of an issue about walking on water.
Still feels strange when I walk on the snow, like where is the bottom? How deep is this stuff? what if I sink? hmmm. They other day I kinda fell and it was very soft and was more like a roll. ( have at er Cor...lol) It looked real good to I'm sure. Still feels like I'm walking on the moon, with the sound of the snow kinda cracking sounds under, the sound of my breathing and all the clothes. even the hills are flat on top like craters. But then the snow looks totally like icing sugar. It moves like it as well.
Another week is gone, that makes three!

Country food
On Friday after work it was nonstop snow mobiles going by. They were excited to get out on the land and go hunting. As I sit here Sunday I am hearing them all coming home. I did see one set of hoves so one family will be happy. All the foos they catch here is called country food.
Yesterday I walked down to the beach and saw the ice road. It is even plowed so trucks can drive on it. Most of the hunters are heading to Victoria Island that is where the Caribou are. It can take 8 hours of riding to get there. They sleep in tents in Caribou pelts. A little cold for meee.

Update Busy Busy
I arrived during a blizzard and it was the coldest day they had all year. I jumped off the plane with my coat open and my gloves in my pocket. I had taken a few steps in the -54 weather and it became painfully cold quickly. I fumbled for my gloves and at the same time tried to keep my coat closed to the frozen blowing wind. I arrived inside the much warmer inside on the airport. The plane had been delayed for 6 hours so there was a quite a few people waiting to leave and people being picked up. I looked around and waited for about 20 mins then two people came in the door and walked right up to me and said you must be Shannon and were here to pick you up. One was my new boss and the other another co-worker in the office. Both were very nice and great humour. I felt very comfortable right away. We loaded my 8 crazy heavy totes and off we went. Dealing with the 8 totes in Edmonton back to the hotel and back to the airport was a nightmare I wish to never repeat.
I get to my new home, which is a good size, but older fourplex. It has borrowed furniture till mine arrives. The internet is painfully slow and we only get 500mb. a month, which I could use in 5 days if I’m not careful. So loading pictures is almost impossible.
The next day the blizzard continues, no planes land that day, and they close the hamlet. My new office is open and I head off to work, which I get a ride phew cause not sure where I live yet in the little hamlet.
I meet everyone and am pleasantly surprised, everyone is so nice. My work is turning out to be challenging and very comfortable. I travel in two weeks and will tour the Kitikmeot area. I will stop at 4 Schools and meet with the DEA assistants and principals of the Schools.
I have been crazy busy. This place is so social. I have gone to sewing class which I am making a pair of Caribou gloves. Which I so need, I am going to make a pair for Reza and then I want to make Gimmicks (spelling??) they are the seal or Caribou boats. Then I want to make a Mother Hubbard Parka. Yesterday was a going away party at work where I got to try Caribou (yummy). Then I was invited to a birthday party during the evening ( I had a great time and laughed so much). They play volleyball, and curling. Lots of sports happen during the evening. I have been busy reading (work) in the evenings.
The weather since the blizzard has been gorgeous sun every day. It has snowed twice and that drifts around cause it is always windy. The wind makes the temp so much colder. The sun rises around 7 am and sets around 7pm. It is crazy dry here and everything you touch you get a huge zap, but I have gotten used to that. My lips have gotten used to the dry, at first it was horrible till I found my lipsul.
Prices are all over the map. Some things like cream $9.50, milk $8.00 for a 2L. Wagonwheels $22. But some (a few)things are almost the same as home.
Well I am going to work on my gloves today and some more reading material.

Here I come ready or NOT!
I am tring to stuff my totes with my first love---FOOD! Second love --husband will be coming sooner than later...I know you can't stay away. Besides it will drive you crazy that I will be decorating our new home all by my artist self..heee. No doilies ALLOWED!
I fly out tomorrow night to Edmonton, overnight there. Tuesday morning off to Whitehorse, then Kugluktuk. Hope they don't have to get security to get me off the plane. I can see myself clinging, legs wrapped around the back of the seat in a commatose state, refusing to get off the plane. Well if they unload my food then I will follow that. Just shake the licorice bag, I'll fly after that.
Already grieving my wine, goodbye my dearest friend.
Oh yes it has been a very hard week saying goodbye to all my wonderful friends. Never goodbye, see ya soon! I have been blessed with the best friends ever, even if they think I've lost my noodles (food).
