Ice River and a Wedding

The river broke yesterday. All the ice that was piling up broke out to the ocean. There was also a wedding two little flower girls in traditional clothes, they were very cute. Others are from the church, gorgeous artwork on the walls and the antler candle holders I loved.

Home

Well I am home again, most of the snow is gone. Soon the river will be broken up and the water will push the ice. They have said when the ice is being pushed down it makes loud noises, they say the river sings, I can't wait. This weekend we will walk over to see the river and take pictures. When I flew over from Yellowknife the sights out the window were breath taking. We followed the coppermine river all the way to Kugluktuk. I could see the brown muddy water flowing south, till it was stuck behind the froozen river. I could see the blue froozen water of the ocean. the water comes ontop of the ice and it changes color. I will be flying over to Cabridge Bay in a few weeks and I can't wait to see Victoria Island. From there I will be going to Kugaaruk and it is suppose to be very beautiful when all the snow melts. It is colder over there so in a few weeks it should warm up. Well I hope to post some pictures after the weekend.

Handfull of gold....

Look what I found on our hike today...Gold...aka bunny poop
My garden is going to have a treat.

My pocket was full of these poops.
My beans with the bunny golden nugets. Look how big they are... Those bunnys must be huge, and I really have no desire to met one.
This is the Coppermine river starting to melt. First the snow melts on top and then the ice under. I can't wait to see it starting to move-flow again.
One of my work mates going out camping.
My house is in the last group of tall houses.
When we were walking a lady from work had got a Caribou, dinner last night.
Traditional fur clothing, that is survival here, you must wear fur, even today to go out in the winter.
This is an older map of the town. right beside the p in map is were I live. There is now another street behind us. I live on Hilltop.
Midnight sunset. That was a few weeks ago and now the sun is up all night.
Campers traveling on the frozen Artic Ocean. The Frozen waterways are the northern Highways. When they melt you can't go anywhere unless you have a boat.
Another pic of the kitchen, I do like my place..

Kids

We have been watching these little kids slidding down the snow in our back yard. They are very cute, one is about 4, her parka is bigger than she is.
Well yesterday there was one howling so Reza went out and asked if she was ok. She said she lost one of her boots. She was walking through snow and icy water. I jumped i my boots and went to save her. I said to her to jump on my back, but she was so heavy I couldn't get off the ground. Good lord she weighed a ton. so I picked her up and carried her to a dry spot while she told me where her boot was last seen. I found it in two feet of snow. I slipped it on her foot, she jump down and took off. oh I  thought ohhh your welcome!!

The weather is getting warm, as long as the sun shines. It is about -2 or +2. I have been taking my lettuce outside during the day. It has been very humid and soil is too wet. I have not watered for a week, so I hope they don't rot.

People are heading camping on the weekend, the geese have arrived and they are hunting them. They will also collect there eggs soon. This weekend I think we re the only ones left in town. This is the last long weekend before the ice starts to break up for the campers to go out to there cabins. They also ice fish, caribou hunt and hunt geese.

School is almost finished, they finish here end of May and start back end of August. That way families can go out on the land and hunt for food for the year.

What time is it??

Yesterday was gorgeous, Sun like I have never seen. It was so warm we were out in our t-shirts.

We decided to showel the snow off our deck last night. We got the door cleared so we could open it and get into our storage shed. We opened it to find stuff from the last tenant still in it. Mostly packaging garbage. But a christmas tree and a tent, now we can go camping...NOT. Sweating and hard work felt good in the sun. When we came back in we plunked on the couch and looked at the time, it was 11:30. We started to laugh there is no way we knew it was that late. Sorry neighbours for the late night noise.
We have our place looking really nice and it feels like home. Reza is very happy and says everyday thanks for bringing me here. He was pretty nervous for this kind of change. Today the sun is shinning beautiful again, so it is out on the deck again to start my little green house. We have showeled all the snow into our moving bins for outside water and it also keeps the greenhouse warmer. I have heard that in a few weeks when the river starts to break up the water can get salty, that is not good for plants.
My lettuce is an inch high, I have sprouted green and red pee/ppers, beans, tomatos, and herbs. They are very happy with this 24hour light. I need to get a tempiture gage for my green house, I need advice from Kerrie (Weather specialist).
