Holy Smoke

I smell smoke this morning,  We are way above the tree line, but I sure smell smoke from forest fires. It is thick smoke in the air. Yesterday we had a southerly wind and it was crazy hot all night, It has carried smoke from the fires in NWT.

Anyways it is looking to be a hot day again, kinda looks like a fishing day..

Happy adventures

Whale

Coffee break and for snack is whale blubber...

They have caught some whale and eveyone in town was getting pieces of it. It is very popular, eaten raw..The weather here today was hot hot..On my temp outside my window it said 30' c mind you that is against the house facing the south. It really should be out of the direct sun, but I wanted to read it in the winter without going outside. I walked home after work with a shoulder of Caribou and a fish, I was sweating so much much by the time I got home..

I maybe heading back to Kugaaruk in a week or so.. It is the home of the Nar Whale, so maybe I will get to see one..

It is light out 24 hours, so kids come out to play around midnight and they play out all night, and sleep all day. They keep playing under our house first on the ice then in the water. It was very noisy and we were having problems sleeping. They would yell and scream and cry.. Sometimes at 2 am I would go out and tell them not to play there cause of the wires it was unsafe. They really did care and would still play. So one night i went out and showed them the septic and said there is poo poo under there, well they could not get out fast enough... The next night there were different kids playing so Reza went out and was saying poo poo, I could hear the kids saying what, he would repeat poo poo...I'm sure all the neighbours heard him saying we have poo poo, so we have not had a kid near our place in a few weeks... blessed sleep..

Have a great weekend All!

Fishing and I got one!!

First I caught this

Then Iranimo caught this

Then he caught one

Then I caught this

He is just posing with MINE! hee hee

What a fun day, we were both new fishing people. He is a little wet from one of his marvelous casts...hee hee.

I had myself a big knot I was undoing while I look over to watch him do a big cast, he forgot to flip that thing over and cast himself right into the Arctic Ocean. He looks over right away to see if the new guy was watching he was not but I sure was. I was laying on the ground laughing..
When I got my big one on the line he was running up and down yelling pull it in.. I said I was trying but it was pulling me everywhere. So he grabs the line and trys to pull it, he says whoa and starts yelling again pull it in, why you playing with it... Finally I got it to the shore and just as it lands on the sand and tide the hook cames out. I yelled grab it, he does. So I will have to share the glory with him. Now he is hooked, wants to fish all the time. He was gaurding the last two nights has a little sleep then gets up and says lets go fishing...

But I have been busy year end always busy. This is also where they hunt the Nar Whales, the ones with the long tusks. The hunt starts in August, wish I could see them swimming. Still light all night, and the kids play outside all night. Different life up here, but I still smile everytime I htink I am on top of the world, what an experience... You gotta do it!

Ice River and a Wedding

The river broke yesterday. All the ice that was piling up broke out to the ocean. There was also a wedding two little flower girls in traditional clothes, they were very cute. Others are from the church, gorgeous artwork on the walls and the antler candle holders I loved.

Home

Well I am home again, most of the snow is gone. Soon the river will be broken up and the water will push the ice. They have said when the ice is being pushed down it makes loud noises, they say the river sings, I can't wait. This weekend we will walk over to see the river and take pictures. When I flew over from Yellowknife the sights out the window were breath taking. We followed the coppermine river all the way to Kugluktuk. I could see the brown muddy water flowing south, till it was stuck behind the froozen river. I could see the blue froozen water of the ocean. the water comes ontop of the ice and it changes color. I will be flying over to Cabridge Bay in a few weeks and I can't wait to see Victoria Island. From there I will be going to Kugaaruk and it is suppose to be very beautiful when all the snow melts. It is colder over there so in a few weeks it should warm up. Well I hope to post some pictures after the weekend.
